Mississippi congressman Harper endorses Kasich for president
Chuck Grassley (R) (R-IA) as he tours the Iowa State Fair on August 18, 2015 in Des Moines, Iowa. Conservative radio talk show host Mark Levin has derided him as an anchorless establishment Republican, but a word of caution based on personal experience: Never underestimate John Kasich.
“My approach to China is that we shouldn’t be looking at them with rose-colored glasses”, Kasich said.
Republican presidential candidate John Kasich is garnering more support in Mississippi. He tells college-aged kids to keep “reaching for the stars”, and seniors to focus on positivity. Kasich told the LTU crowd. “It’s not just something that we’re witnessing in one part of the world now”.
Kasich said Monday that he disagrees with President Barack Obama’s decision to rename Mount McKinley as Denali, the traditional Alaska Native name. “You fund the things that are critical to you”. Graham’s comments came after Kasich, in a radio interview, said that sequestration “doesn’t matter to me” when talking about reforms he favors. Iranian and Syrian-backed Hezbollah terrorists had blown up the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, killing 241 service members.
Being the man of strong faith he says he is, Gov. Kasich is probably doing a lot of praying these days.
His tone is more reminiscent of the “joyful tortoise” campaign Bush set out to run, but has now abandoned as he goes toe-to-toe with Trump. This conventional wisdom has been challenged by liberals who dispute the notion that Kasich is more in line with their views than other Republicans. Kasich questioned the Reagan Administration’s continued deployment of USA forces in Lebanon. He also offered practical solution, pulling from his time as governor in Ohio, where, he said, the state was $8 billion in the hole when he took office and now has a $2 billion surplus. “But we’ve got too much to be thankful for in this country to be waking up in a bad mood”. The state treasurer hasn’t backed down, instead hosting Rubio when he’s campaigned in Ohio.
Michael Hartley, his deputy campaign manager from the 2010 gubernatorial campaign and a close adviser since then, will direct the Ohio leadership team.
The big Mississippi endorsements could give Kasich a badly needed Deep South boost.
Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor, Attorney General Mike DeWine, Auditor Dave Yost and Senate President Keith Faber are co-chairing Kasich’s campaign in Ohio ahead of the state’s March 15 primary. “I don’t think it’s necessarily the first tool out of the bag, but it is a potentially powerful one”.
