White House Staffer Accused of Threatening U.S. Capitol Police Officer Indicted
The White House staffer and former Capitol Hill aide arrested last month for allegedly shooting at her Capitol Police boyfriend was indicted Tuesday by Maryland authorities on charges of first-degree assault, according to Roll Call.
Singletary is charged with first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence.
NBCWashington reports Singletary had been on unpaid leave since her arrest, federal officials said, and her access to the White House complex was revoked.
Singletary has employed protection lawyer Rosalyn Pugh, who was not instantly obtainable for remark.
A White House spokesperson told WJLA that Barvetta Singletary, 37, of Upper Marlboro resigned her job on Wednesday, a day after she was indicted. When he arrived, they engaged in a quick sexual encounter after which Singletary started asking him about one other lady he was courting.
Singletary subsequently pointed the gun in the officer’s direction and fired one round into the sofa where he was sitting, police said.
According to prosecutors, Singletary took the policeman’s two cellphones and.40-caliber Glock 23 service weapon from a bag in his vehicle and took them inside her house. Cleveland adopted her in, trying to retrieve his telephones and fix weapon.
Singletary is departing the West Wing three weeks after the August 7 incident, in which police say she confronted her boyfriend about another woman. Fearing for his life, Cleveland left the residence and referred to as 911.
