Manchester United transfer news: Hugo Lloris basically confirms he wanted Man
The Frenchman had been linked as a possible replacement for David De Gea, had his move to Real Madrid been ratified.
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has dropped a hint that he would have been open to the possibility of moving to Manchester United this summer, according to the Daily Express. Fortunately, De Gea is staying at Old Trafford, although this is more down to paperwork mismanagement rather than any kind of resolve.
However, it became clear Lloris was staying at White Hart Lane, while de Gea’s switch to the Bernabeu fell through on deadline day anyway.
The France and Spurs captain was speaking at a press conference ahead of his national team duties when he was asked whether not playing in Europe’s premier club competition this season was a problem for him.
Lloris is quoted as saying “the desired movement didn’t happen” as he prepares for Les Blues’ friendlies against Portugal and Serbia later this month.
French newspaper L’Equipe recently claimed that members in the United board were interested in signing Lloris while Louis van Gaal’s preference was for either Jasper Cillessen of Ajax or Keylor Navas of Real Madrid. “I feel respected, I have a very good relationship with the staff and I’m ready to play the best season possible”.
Any potential transfer would also have been complicated by the fact that the former Lyon shot-stopper had signed a new five-year contract with Spurs in July 2014.
