Van Gaal Delighted With Anthony Martial Capture

In an interview with France Football, Martial admitted he discussed the move with another new recruit, Schneiderlin, who he is now away with on worldwide duty.

“I am so excited to be joining Manchester United“, said Martial. That spending power is only set to increase next summer when new TV deals take effect that will guarantee even the bottom Premier League club £100m per season – up from around £60m now.

A statement on United’s official website read, “Manchester United is delighted to announce that Anthony Martial has completed his transfer from AS Monaco”.

The teenager has scored 15 goals in his 70 appearances for Monaco so far and although he’s far from the finished product, he has bags of ability and has the potential to become a world class player over the next few years.

The Dutchman has come under fierce criticism from fans over the past few days given his dealings in the transfer window.

United may not be signing a prolific goalscorer (yet), but Martial has proven a constant threat in the French league, with his runs in behind providing space for his teammates and his ability to pounce on any mistake a defender makes.

United captain Rooney approached his French teammate after the defeat to Swansea, when reports were first emerging that manager Louis van Gaal was trying to buy Monaco forward Martial, in a bid to discover about the 19-year-old.

Just like David de Gea and Juan Mata helped Ander Herrera settle down at United, Schneiderlin will serve as somebody who Martial can look up to and talk to if needed.

“We saw him at the Emirates (stadium in London) last season playing with Monaco and causing trouble to the Arsenal defence, he has a bright future”, Henry said.

James Wilson was linked with a loan move away from the club but that failed to materialise.
