Man Shot by Police After he Opened Fire on Officers, NYPD Says
A man was shot in the leg by police after a gun-battle in Brooklyn Friday morning, sources said.
NYPD said officers were chasing a man they believe shot another person in the arm before he turned around and fired bullets at them.
The 27-year-old suspect opened fire, striking the officers’ vehicle, according to the NYPD.
The shooting happened shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Madison Street near Knickerbocker Avenue in Bushwick. Officers arrived to find four adult victims with non-life threatening gunshot wounds: three men and one woman.
Police said the officer and sergeant, both in an unmarked unit, were given a description of the suspect – and then saw him fleeing the area.
During an ensuing foot pursuit, police said an officer shot and hit the suspect in the calf. That man was struck in the arm and treated at Elmhurst Hospital. Two officers were taken to the hospital to be checked out following the shooting.
None of the NYPD officers involved were wounded by gunfire, though six were transported to local hospitals for treatment of tinnitus, police said. Police are still investigating the shootings.
