Arby’s Employee Who Denied Service to Police Officer Has ‘Likely’ Excuse
A Pembroke Pines police officer who was refused service at a local Arby’s supposedly because she ordered in uniform has scored an outpouring of support from the community and Arby’s itself. The incident unfolded Tuesday evening when Martin attempted to order food from the Pembroke Pine Arby’s.
The visit follows an incident involving Arby’s manager Angel Mirabel, clerk Kenneth Davenport and a Pembroke Pines police officer. A spokesman for Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc. declined to say how long Davenport’s leave would last.
While the Arby’s acknowledge that the incident was an isolated one, on Thursday, they released this statement saying that the company would be taking disciplinary action “up to and including termination of the employees involved”.
“I want my grandson exonerated of all this misunderstanding and not to have to look over his shoulder”, said McCutcheon. “We don’t hate anybody”, he said.
After being informed of the incident, Arby’s Chief Executive Officer Paul Brown and Senior Vice President of Operations Scott Boatwright contacted Pembroke Pines Police Chief Dan Giustino to apologize on behalf of the organization.
Davenport claims he was not refusing to wait for the police officer – not at all. “We are simply looking to get people from the drive thru”. “There’s no point in talking”.
Davenport’s grandfather told that the whole thing was a joke and that the teen’s words were “taken out of context and blown into something much bigger than what it should be”. The chain invited all officers in the Miami area to receive a free combo meal of their choice on Friday. That’s when Martin said she was unsure about the condition of her food, decided not to eat there and asked for a refund, the report states.
Arby’s quickly issued an apology in regards to the incident. He said in a statement, “I am offended and appalled that an individual within our community would treat a police officer in such a manner”.
