Ravens vs. Falcons: Postgame Grades, Notes and Quotes for Baltimore

The Atlanta Falcons had some issues that needed addressing in the final preseason game after falling to the Miami Dolphins last week in Miami Gardens.

Run defense, a staple of this franchise throughout its history, has shown plenty of leaks once the starters have left the field. His one touchdown pass came on a 25-yard strike to Carlton Mitchell against the Ravens.

Southward hit with authority and recovered a key fumble for the Atlanta Falcons. He had one interception, 105 yards passing and no touchdown passes.

Ravens: Undrafted rookie running back Terrence Magee boosted his hopes by leading the Ravens with 37 yards rushing on nine carries. Nelson got a shot at a punt runback, but he let the ball drop.

Atlanta added field goals of 49 yards and 22 yards from Matt Bryant in the first half, the second of which was set up by a 70-yard punt return by rookie receiver Justin Hardy out of East Carolina.

The Ravens cashed in on field goals of 28 and 45 yards in the first half from Justin Tucker.

In addition to the Brown touchdown pass, Renner connected on a 6-yard pass with wide receiver Jeremy Butler in the end zone.

The Falcons also released defensive end Cliff Matthews and waived safety Sean Baker, linebacker Terrell Manning, tackle Jake Rodgers, guard Jared Smith and cornerback Kevin White. The Ravens went for the two-point conversion to go for the win, but the pass to fullback Kiero Small fell incomplete.

“We had a lot of positives”, Harbaugh said at halftime.

But if Sports Illustrated is right, not even an inconsistent preseason should hold back the Ravens.
