“Apple to launch 21.5” iMac with 4k screen in October
Apple has not updated the 21.5-inch Mac since 2013.
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is working on updating its 21.5-inch iMac model with a 4K display according to 9to5Mac. It’s slated to carry a resolution of 4096×2304, and the site’s sources say it will indeed be Apple’s smaller iMac that gets the 4K refresh next month. This refreshed version of the desktop all-in-one will be announced alongside OS X El Capitan and will begin shipping in November.
The model that will be getting a 4K monitor will be the 21.5-inch variant that’s now being offered with a 1920 x 1080 pixel display.
It is also expected that the new 4K iMac will have faster processors, as well as improved graphics performance and additional upgrade options.
A festive period seems to be approaching Apple as the company lines up for its sensational Apple event later this week; the new iPhone is set to feature, along with an overhauled Apple TV and a new iPad Pro. Skylake chips appropriate for the iMac are launching “later this year”, but there are a handful of Broadwell chips appropriate for various 21.5-inch iMac models.
Obviously it can’t be said for sure right now if this is really going to happen, Apple doesn’t confirm these things prior to the actual announcement so we’ll have to wait for the keynote to find out for sure.
