Transbay Tube closed over Labor Day weekend; no service between Oakland and
BART is encouraging people to plan ahead for the Labor Day weekend’s transbay BART closure, which will take place Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
“We understand the interruption in service will be a significant inconvenience for tens of thousands of people but we simply can’t avoid making these repairs”, BART Assistant General Manager for Operations Paul Oversier said in a statement.
Without this service, motorists can expect more cars on the road and additional congestion throughout the Bay Area. There will also be fewer rides requiring transfers.
BART will offer limited transbay bus service between 19th Street in Oakland and the Transbay Terminal in San Francisco during the closure, but agency officials warned it could involve delays of up to one to two hours.
The BART tube that connects San Francisco to the East Bay will be closed all weekend due to maintenance and fix work, which could result in increased traffic Saturday. Buses will leave about every 90 seconds.
There will also be a Billy Joel concert at AT&T Park, which is expected to add to the mayhem. The gates at Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium open at Noon for the 2 p.m. kickoff. A full list of advisories can be found online.
Service is also doubling this weekend on the San Francisco Bay Ferry between Alameda, Oakland and San Francisco, Water Emergency Transportation Authority officials said.
