Iconic Horror Movie Director And Genre Innovator Wes Craven Dies At 76
In 1988, he created Freddy’s Nightmares, a two-season horror anthology series that ran for 44 total episodes, with each episode being introduced by A Nightmare Elm Street’s iconic killer Freddy Krueger (played by Robert Englund).
He presided over eight “Nightmare on Elm Street” films, and in the 1980s directed some episodes of the revival “Twilight Zone” series. He passed in Los Angeles, and information about his dying are yet impending.
In 1999, Craven stepped away from the horror realm and showed flexibility in directing the moving drama Music of the Heart, which earned Meryl Streep an Academy Award nomination, although it was hard to convince movie goers that Craven could deliver a nonhorror film.
The movie theater arena of fright has dropped an awesome one right now, Deadline statistics.
“Wesley Earl Craven was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on 2 August 1939”. He graduated with a masters degree in philosophy and writing from John Hopkins University. Some are all-time classics while others didn’t receive the same commercial or critical success, but it’s still Craven who is arguably the greatest horror director of all-time.
In 1996, Craven sought permission to film part of the original “Scream” at Santa Rosa High School.
His first film as a director and screenwriter was “The Last House on the Left“, a horror movie that premiered in 1972, inspired by Ingmar Bergman’s 1960 flick “The Virgin Spring”, and of which he did a remake in 2009, adding the role of producer to his credits.
Of his career, Wes shared, “I come from a blue-collar family, and I’m just glad for the work”. He has entertained us all for decades and inspired so many to follow in his path. I loved Wes dearly and will miss him always.
Wes Craven is no more.
Tributes also flocked in from Neve’s Scream co-stars including Courteney Cox and Rose McGowan.
Krueger, who wore a scruffy fedora and had a glove with razor blades attached to the fingers, would visit his victims in their dreams and slash them to death.
Craven is survived by his son, Jonathan, Sister Carol, daughter Jessica, three grandchildren Max, Miles and Myra-Jean, stepdaughter Nina, and his wife, Iya Labunka, who was his third wife.
