Rahane should bat at No.5 in Test cricket: Dravid
Former Indian captain and current India “A” team coach, Rahul Dravid thinks that Ajinkya Rahane should bat at the number 5 position because of his stability to hold on with the tail batsmen, reports ESPNcricinfo. “But for me the most challenging part was switching on and off between balls, and keeping my composure and concentration”. I spent five years, 55-60 first-class games, 17-18 first-class hundreds to get into the India side. “I tried to get these three things right here”, Rahane said.
“Maybe he was not perceived to be as flashy as other people”. If you look at the previous year and a half there are so many overseas tours India has played.
Dravid additionally believes that Rahane is proficient sufficient to tackle second new ball and maintained that the 27-yr-previous had been India’s greatest batsman with runs and a whole lot in in all probability each nation he had performed in.
“That has been terrific for me to see how he has grown”. It would not have been easy.
The 42-year-old cricket legend advised the same saying, “The ability to rotate the strike and construct a partnership when people have put men on the boundary line, and not hitting cover or point all the time, being able to hit to long-on or long-off and playing risk-free cricket, and building an innings against spin on tracks that are slow and turn a bit – these skills need to be worked on and developed”. It needs mental strength and courage to do that.
India lost the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle chasing 176 as they were bogged down by the hosts’ spinners.
Rahane recently created a record by taking eight catches in a Test match against Sri Lanka and he feels patience and anticipation and staying calm is the most essential tool behind it. Rahul Dravid’s elder son Samit and younger Anvay are well familiar with the IPL fans and followers as they have been spotted out many a times in Rajasthan Royal teams events and practices sessions. Anticipation and staying calm will surely make you a good slip fielder.
After sharing a personal belief that he finds writing a column or book liberating, Chopra asked Dravid: “What should be Ajinkya Rahane’s batting order (in Test cricket)”.
In some quarters, it was seen as an attempt to include Rohit Sharma, who was failing at No.3, and in the process creating pressure on Rahane. “The one Rahane took going to his left off Sangakkara (Watch the catch, not available in Sri Lanka and Canada), you hardly have a second to react”.
