Nissan Recalls 300000 Versa, Versa Note, Armada Vehicles From 2012

Nissan Motor Co. said Friday it will recall nearly 300,000 cars in the United States under government pressure because of unintended acceleration risks linked to a trim panel as safety officials upgrade a new separate investigation into almost 1 million Nissan vehicles.

What Owners Should Do: Nissan will notify owners starting in mid-October.

The affected vehicles have a console trim panel that may catch the driver’s shoe and potentially impede smooth pedal operation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on its website. In addition, another driver said their foot got trapped by the console plastic trim and blocked their foot from reaching the brake pedal.

Nissan says that it will begin mailing recall notices to owners in mid-October. Free repairs will be offered at the company’s dealerships later on. The Armada recall is related to a problem with the SUV’s seatbelts.

It’s a no-win situation no matter how you see it. A seat belt that does not properly latch would be useless to an occupant and a seat belt that does not properly unlatch when the release button is pressed may prevent the occupant from quickly exiting the vehicle in an emergency. Instead, Nissan launched a service campaign to modify the console trim panel.

The recall involves four-door Versa sedans from the model years 2012 to 2015 that were made between June 9, 2011, and March 11, 2015, and 2014 and 2015 Versa Note hatchbacks made between April 23, 2013 and March 11, 2015.
