Emre Can makes Germany senior debut
Joachim Low declares himself pleased with Emre Can after Germany’s 3-1 win over Poland on Friday evening. Liverpool fans will know that while Can has performed well in many positions across the pitch, he’s shown a significant drop in form when asked to play as a fullback.
Prior to the match, Can was praised by Germany boss Joachim Low.
“It was not easy for him to withstand the pressure of playing the group leaders Poland, in his first game; he has done well”.
He’s become known as a physical and powerful presence in our team, someone who is adept at running with the ball and taking people on, as well as tracking back and protecting the back four.
After calling Can up for the first time, Low said: “Emre had a good development at Liverpool and is a versatile player”. It was good to see him do well.
The 21-year-old received a rating of 7.48 from whoscored for his debut performance.
Let’s assume that “decent debut performance” is the stoic Low’s version of high praise.
“When you get the ball here there is instantly a player from the other team there, pressing you and challenging you”.
Can will be hoping that he has done enough to make it to the starting eleven when Germany take on Scotland on Monday in another crucial Euro 2016 qualifier. The Bavarian got his first chance to link up with his former team mates this week when away on global duty for Germany.
