Adultery Dating Site Ashley Madison Sued For Failure to Protect Clients
Yesterday (Aug. 24), journalists attending a Toronto press conference surrounding the Ashley Madison leaks wondered why they were being handed AC/DC lyric sheets.
Avid Life Media is offering a $500,000 Canadian dollar reward payment to anyone who provides information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible for the theft. The US-based lawsuit also seeks class-action status, with unspecified damages.
“This ain’t fun and games anymore, this is reality, this is affecting all of us”, said Acting Staff Supt. Specifically, Raja Bhatia, the founding chief technology officer at Ashley Madison, sent a message to Biderman about a security hole discovered in nerve.com, an American online magazine dedicated to sexual topics, culture, and relationships.
“Needless to say, this dumping of sensitive personal and financial information is bound to have catastrophic effects on the lives of the website’s users”. The hack of the Ashley Madison site was first disclosed in July, with the attackers, who identified themselves as “The Impact Team“, threatening to dump the database, which is what occurred on August 19. In addition, the hack is said to have resulted in two suicides, but that remains unconfirmed at this time. “Have an affair” is worsening in the wake of a security breach that exposed information about people who have allegedly been using the service, Ashley Madison, to cheat on their spouses.
Avid Life Media, Inc., the parent company of hacked extra-marital affairs site Ashley Madison is in more than a spot of bother this week with multiple lawsuits being filed against the company.
Commenting on the revelation, Newlitz said, “Ashley Madison is a site where tens of millions of men write mail, chat, and spend money for women who aren’t there”.
On Monday, Canadian law enforcement said the hack triggered extortion crimes.
According to news reports, hackers stole 37 million personal records from the site and threatened to release them if the website does not shut down “permanently in all forms”.
A representative told the news outlet: “Nerve was exploring strategic partnerships in May of 2012 and reached out to Noel to determine Avid Life Media’s interest in the property”.
