Kentucky holds on to win opener 40-33
Kentucky went over the top for its next TD, as Towles capped a seven-play, 99-yard drive with a 35-yard pass to Garrett Johnson. Keep that in mind.
Freshman Stevie Artigue booted a 31-yard field goal – the first of his career – that cut the lead to 27-10 at the 6:04 mark before Kentucky answered when Towles connected with Blake Bone on a 5-yard scoring pass for a 33-10 lead with 3:47 left in the period. When Towles mishandled a snap on fourth down, the Twitter universe lit up and that splashing sound you heard was some of the members of BBN jumping off the ship. He delivered Kentucky’s first sack and finished with 15 tackles, six more than any of his teammates.
But back to Twitter. More than 61,000 relieved Kentucky fans drifted into the night, thinking about the way the stadium looked on the outside and what had just happened on the inside.
“Hopefully it’s just the first step of our defense getting on the same level as our offense nationally”, Walker said. They’ll find out where they’re at over the next two weeks against the Gamecocks and Florida, but for now, just whacking around the Ragin’ Cajuns will be good enough. Kentucky ended the first half with a 24-yard field goal to take a 24-7 lead to the halftime break.
That, my friends, was a very short honeymoon.
Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles and coach Mark Stoops have found it hard to contain their anticipation about new-look Commonwealth Stadium. “We talked about that all week, going out there and scoring on the first play – a big emphasis on it”, Williams said. Let’s not kid ourselves, we have been building for this moment for a couple of years with the stadium and the anticipation and the fans and just an improved football team.
After the football team got their practice session in, the students were able to participate in light drills with team. “I know it didn’t always show tonight, but that’s why you play”.
Nick Chubb and Keith Marshall each ran for two touchdowns for the Bulldogs in the opener, and Greyson Lambert started at quarterback. “Both quarterbacks played solid games”. “We’re going to be a lot faster, we’re going to be a lot stronger”.
A win Saturday over Steve Spurrier and South Carolina and obviously, all will be forgiven. With the new season comes a new name for the store. Forrest remained a force from sideline to sideline.
Things started about as bad as they possibly could against Kentucky. “We’re 1-0 and we’re moving on”, Towles said. “When the ball was in the air, our guys made plays on the ball”.
Horton played in all 12 games last season as a reserve, finishing with 306 yards on the year.
Morehead State’s women’s basketball team also recently announced two additions to this year’s roster. The Head Ball Coach awaits. “It all started with them, and that’s why I was in the position to score”. For her performance, she received the Most Valuable Player and Outstanding Contributions to Athletics Awards from St. Roch. A school spokesman said no one was hurt and there was no damage.
MSU will begin with a exhibition on November 5 against Coach Todd’s previous team, the Division III Transylvania Pioneers.
For Kentucky, the game was about more than christening their renovated home field. The Eagles’ first road trip comes to a close on November. 21 in Atlanta against Georgia State.
And then a Kentucky defense that had made only one meaningful stop all night (the one that set up the winning TD march) did it again, stifling a potential game-winning drive by Louisiana. They then travel to 2015 WNIT runner-up West Virginia on Dec. 2, Lipscomb on Dec. 5, and wrap the trip at Southern Illinois on Dec 12.
