AI flight reports fire midair, makes emergency landing at Delhi airport
In two separate incidents, Air India Airbus A320 flight number AI 405 from Varanasi made an emergency landing at Delhi Indira Gandhi worldwide airport due to hydraulic failure, secondly Delhi-Bagdogra flight number AI 879, suffered a tyre burst while taking off.
50 am, a tyre burst was detected in the aircraft and subsequently it landed back at Delhi airport.All emergency procedures at the airport were immediately initiated.
Hydraulic leak can lead to fire in certain situations.
Some of the passengers were evacuated during the evacuation process.
Officials said some people sustained minor injuries while evacuation as one of the emergency doors did not open properly.
The fire was reported near the nose wheel according to Times Now of the aircraft which was coming from Varanasi to Delhi.
On the other hand, Minister of State, Civil Aviation, Mahesh Sharma confirmed to a TV channel that a fire was indeed reported by the AI flight.
Sources added that the plane did not catch fire but the smoke came out of the plane due to the excessive heat that is generated upon landing.
Ashwani Lohani, AI CMD has said that the airliner will look into the incident. This resulted in few sparks at the nose wheel.
“The aircraft was changed and the flight took off for Bagdogra at 2 pm”, the airline spokesperson said.
According to airport officials, all passengers are safe. “The runway 27 has been cleared now”.
