At least four people dead in small plane crash in Colorado mountains
The flight reportedly originated from Barstow, Calif., and left Flagstaff, Ariz., after refueling.
The twin-engine Cessna 310 went down about 4:15 p.m. Sunday.
Officials say they were searching the Grizzly Peak area based on the plane’s last radar hits and cellphone forensic coordinates.
San Juan County authorities are investigating after searchers found the wreckage of a small plane on a mountainside west of Silverton.
Butch Knowlton, director of the La Plata County Office of Emergency Management, said four people from La Plata County Search and Rescue would be airlifted Sunday evening to the site of the crash at the head of Cascade Creek.
