BBC News: United Airlines resumes flights after technical issues

The airline said it was making progress in restoring normal operations, but warned residual delays were possible into the evening. “It’ll have a domino effect”. The agency didn’t immediately reply to questions for more information on the issue.

Boston’s Logan global Airport, where United carries more than 12 percent of all passengers, was also hit hard by the ground stop.

The reason given was “automation issues” echoing the computer problems that grounded United flights one month ago.

Those who booked a flight for today through United should allow for extra time and get to the airport early.

The grounding occurred at about 6:30 a.m. Mountain Time, so there was little air traffic in Great Falls, according to Great Falls global Airport Director John Faulkner. Howell booked Delta, but his partner booked United. Now, passengers are on their way or at their destination.

Gary Leff, co-founder of frequent-flier website MilePoint, said the breakdown “underscores the sense that something is very wrong at United”.
