Orlando’s grand slam in 9th gives Royals 9-5 win over Rays
Paulo Orlando belted a game-ending grand slam to give the Royals a 9-5 victory over Tampa Bay in the opener of a day-night doubleheader, and Alcides Escobar had a bases-clearing double to help them to a 7-1 win over the Rays in the nightcap on Tuesday.
The Royals loaded the bases again in the second against a struggling Matt Moore and were able to plate their first run when Alex Gordon was plunked perilously close to his surgically-repaired wrist. Both clubs had an inside-the-park home run.
Forsythe’s home run tied it at 2, and the Rays added another run later in the inning. The last time that occurred was May 26, 1997 – Sammy Sosa, Cubs, and Tony Womack, Pirates. Although his. 269 batting average is not exactly where Royals’ fans would like it to be, Gordon is coming off a seven-hit day Tuesday in a double-header sweep of the Rays.

He eventually was lifted into a cart and driven off the field, his head covered in a towel. Their franchise-high of five actually came in one of their less successful seasons, 2009, when Jason Bartlett, Carl Crawford, Evan Longoria, Carlos Pena, and Ben Zobrist all earned places on the All-Star roster.
