Box Office Gives Warm Welcome to the Bhais on Opening Day

Uday Shetty (Nana Patekar) and Majnu Bhai (Anil Kapoor) have left the underworld and are now big businessmen in Dubai. Shruti Haasan needs to work on her dialogue-delivery skills and ends up with awkward expressions in some scenes.

With excellent production values, the film is visually glossy and vibrant.

John Abraham as Shruti’s love interest and Dr. Gunghroo’s son, plays the brawny Ajay aka Ajjubhai with elan.

Uday gets to know that he has a sister (Shruti Haasan) from another mother and who else other than Ghungroo can be a better father-in-law to his sister?

Meanwhile, John Abraham joins the gangster fraternity as Ajju bhai.

But in order to meet the criteria Ajju Bhai has to pose as a the flawless suitor in order to be marriage material for Ranjhana. Patekar and Kapoor are the exact opposite. Also joining the film are Naseeruddin Shah as “Wanted Bhai” and Dimple Kapadia. He is an actor known to get into the skin of character with elan.

While there are several references to the prequel, you don’t miss these connections as this film stands firm on its own terrain, albeit following the same formulaic pattern, in premise and plot, as its predecessor. Besides, it is being said that exclusive, limited edition luxury cars have been used in the film. A taut screenplay and editing would surely have benefitted the film. One of the striking features of this film is that it is the first B Town movie, which was shot inside the Emirates Palace based in Abu Dhabi after the Hollywood action flick Fast And Furious. “Firoz bhai has spared no effort and expense in ensuring that”. The music by Anu Malik, Abhishek Ray, Meet Bros Anjan and Mika Singh is just OK, bordering on cacophony at times. Tutti Bole Wedding Di, I can consider only this as a song.

Mika Singh remixes the original “Welcome” theme into a fun and upbeat EDM track called “Welcome Back“. But the highlight is John debuts as a singer with this film by giving his voice to “Time lagaye kaiko”.

The highlight of this climactic segment are the flying contraptions – they look like life mini-helicopters – that dissolve into a ball of fire when they hit the ground, signifying in many ways the nature of this film.

Despite Akshay’s absence, Welcome Back promises to be a riot of comedy and hysterics.
