Juve confirm Pirlo MLS move
Pirlo has completed his move to Major League Soccer club New York City FC after a decorated career at the top of European football. Pirlo joined a new-look Juventus with a semi-novice Conte at the helm and christened Juventus Stadium by offering Stephan Lichtsteiner a deadly assist to mark the first official goal scored in that venue.
Pirlo enjoyed an Indian summer in Serie A, starring in a stellar Juventus midfield after joining from Milan in 2011, where the coach, Max Allegri, considered him to be past his best at 32.
Pirlo, the great player won a host of honors during a memorable career in his homeland, including six Scudetti titles and two Champions League trophies, as well as the World Cup with Italy in 2006. “Like David Villa, his final game before the MLS was the Champions League final, which demonstrates a player competing at the highest level of our sport”.
NYCFC are one of the hottest teams in the entire MLS right now, as they have won four of their last five games and the squad are firing on all cylinders. The Italian midfielder is confident they can develop a good relationship to train well and win together.
Juventus said in a statement that it was an honor to have had Pirlo, adding: Thanks for everything, Maestro, and good luck..
As if Andrea Pirlo walking around New York City in a New York Yankees on more than one occasion wasn’t enough of a hint, the announcement we’ve been expecting for days has arrived.
One has to hand it to New York City FC.
“It’s hard to put what I feel into words, especially as it involves four such important years of my life”, the 36-year-old Pirlo wrote on his official Twitter account.
In a sprawling, metaphor-laden thank you, Juve says Pirlo “is silent charisma” and floats the hashtag #WeAreImpressed. It was not easy to decide, but the time has come to start a new adventure.
“Fino alla fine [‘until the end’, the club’s motto], forza Juventus!”
