Sam Smith records James Bond theme song

Speaking to BBC Radio 1, Smith said he’d recorded the song in January (“the quickest song I have ever written”) and had been trying his darnedest to keep it hush-hush ever since.

Smith co-wrote title song, with fellow GRAMMY Award victor Jimmy Napes.

He has now tweeted: “This is one of the highlights of my career”.

Recent singers who’ve performed Bond themes include Madonna, Chris Cornell and the duo of Jack White and Alicia Keys, as well as Adele, to whom Smith has often been compared. “I hope you all enjoy the song as much as I enjoyed making it”.

Long-term Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli further fuelled the excitement surrounding the tune, describing it as “the most inspirational song” with an “extraordinary vocal performance”. “I’m so excited for people to hear it. I love the song so much”.

Only last week, Smith had denied any part in the new 007 caper, which opens in October starring Daniel Craig as the durable secret agent first played by Sean Connery.

It will be simultaneously released in cinemas throughout the United Kingdom on the same day and tickets are already on sale.

The announcement by distributor Sony Pictures Entertainment came only a day after Smith dropped a heavy hint on social media.

As fans prepare for the next instalment of the popular franchise, they will be able to listen to the film’s new Bond track, Writing’s On The Wall, on September 25.

This Bond film’s theme song will be titled Writings on the Wall.

Sam Smith became rather popular over the course of this passed year, with songs like Stay With Me and Lay Me Down frequently taking the number one spot on a variety of charts. “Hopefully it won’t be too awful.”
