Ex-girlfriend of slain dentist’s boyfriend linked to murder plot, police say
Online jail records do not indicate an attorney for Cortes to comment on the capital murder charge.
Cortes has not yet entered a plea, but police said she “confessed to conspiring” to drive a gunman to the parking garage to rob Hatcher.
Police now believe the ex-girlfriend of Hatcher’s boyfriend promised Cortes the money if she brought back Hatcher’s driver’s license, according to police documents cited by The Dallas Morning News.
The warrant states that the ex-girlfriend, 33, ended a two-year relationship with Hatcher’s current boyfriend earlier this year.
Cortes claims she thought it was just a robbery and drove an unidentified man to Hatcher’s apartment that night.
Police say the Jeep Cortes was driving followed another vehicle into the garage.
According to police, two days later, they received a call from a man who had seen his 1996 Jeep Cherokee on news reports about the murder. She was arrested Saturday on a traffic warrant several hours after Cortes’ arrest and after cops obtained a warrant to search her apartment, the News reported.
Cortes told detectives that the ex-girlfriend had a black iPhone that they used to track the victim’s location prior to killing her, according to the affidavit.
Since police have not yet charged the woman with a crime, News 8 has chosen not to name her.
Investigators have searched the woman’s apartment, and they questioned her over the weekend, WFAA-TV reported.
A source tells CBS11 Dallas police are questioning the ex-girlfriend of Dr. Kendra Hatcher’s boyfriend.
