Disney removes Bill Cosby statue at Hollywood Studios – Las Vegas Sun News
Disney has decided to remove a Bill Cosby bronze bust from the Hollywood Studios theme park near Orlando, Florida, where tributes to other television celebrities – including Oprah Winfrey and Lucille Ball – are also located.
Cosby during the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s was the best-known and most popular comedian on U.S. television and NBC’s “The Cosby Show” set a TV precedent, although the network recently announced that due to the sexual scandals surrounding the actor it would not work with him again. The list of Cosby’s alleged victims includes Tamara Green, Therese Serignese and Linda Traitz, who are now suing the comedian.
Seven months ago, an online petition called for the removal of the statue from the Disney park.
Local news outlets report the statue was being removed after the park closed Tuesday night.
“Drugging and rape are serious crimes and having a star on the walk honoring Cosby after his admissions of these acts is a gross slap at the industry and the public”, they added.
The move comes after the Associated Press obtained court documents from 2005 in which the comic and actor admitted to obtaining quaaludes with the intention of giving them to women with whom he planned to have intercourse with.
