A little over a month left before primary election in governor’s race
Candidates have until Thursday afternoon to sign up to run for the office. When asked if he would be participating in any forums or debates before the October 24th primary, he replied, “Absolutely”.
“Even those tracking the race closely didn’t know it would be on TV until the week prior-and few cared until they discovered U.S. Sen”.
“I haven’t committed to any, so we’re getting invitations and sifting through all that right now”. “He’ll continue to have zillions of dollars”.
While both Angelle and Vitter have been advertising, Dardenne has yet to run a TV ad but said he’ll be up on the air shortly.
The first full day of qualifying didn’t produce too many surprises in Louisiana’s major state-wide races.
Candidates seeking the top jobs on the ballot – including governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, treasurer and insurance commissioner – must pay their qualifying fees and file their paperwork at the Secretary of State’s office in Baton Rouge.
The Louisiana governor’s race has a seventh candidate as of Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 9).
Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne said because of current Gov. Bobby Jindal’s travels, he has been acting governor for a good part of the year. David Vitter, all three Republicans, and Democratic state Rep. John Bel Edwards signed up. Two others objected to Dardenne’s worldwide travel as lieutenant governor and two people demonstrated in objection to a lucrative board position with energy company Sunoco that is held by Angelle, a former natural resources secretary. The three Republicans are state Sen.
The attorney general’s race is expected to be a tight contest with Republican incumbent Buddy Caldwell facing a challenge from former GOP Congressman Jeff Landry.
