So Is Every Game Just Going to Be Minecraft Now?
Today Square Enix appears to be joining in on the fun with Dragon Quest Builders.
Dragon Quest Builders is in development for PlayStation 3, PS4 and Vita.
Information regarding the game is scarce at this point, but according to a Google translation of 4Gamer, our assumption of it being a Minecraft-like game may be correct as it’s being deemed a “block make RPG”. The game takes place in Alefgard, the setting of the first three Dragon Quest games. Minecraft‘s ascension from indie game obscurity into the world’s most popular videogame may be a one-in-a-million shot, but you’ve got to figure the next big breakout hit from an unknown developer isn’t too far away. We’ll have more details as they are revealed.
It’s expected to ship to Japanese stores this winter in Japan, while other territories are of course not yet announced. We can gauge whether the American people might want to go back after Heroes and see some of the other Dragon Quest games.
Do we need yet another game like Minecraft?
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Dragon Quest series and to mark that earlier this year series creator Yuji Horii said that a host of new games would be announced.
