2 killed by Long Island Rail Road train
HOLLIS, Queens- A Manhattan-bound LIRR train fatally hit two people in the Hollis section of Queens, causing several delays during morning commute Thursday morning.
It happened shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday at Jamaica Avenue and 193rd Street.
The LIRR says trains are averaging 20 to 30 minute delays on the Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma and Hempstead branches as police continue to investigate.
In addition, the Babylon line had one cancellation and the Long Beach line, one delayed train.
About 100 to 200 passengers were stuck at the station for over an hour as police investigated the collision, according to an MTA spokeswoman. Westbound service for Queens Village and Hollis is suspended. A second train was towed into the station to transport the stranded straphangers to Penn Station around 4 a.m.
Daniels said “the two were trespassing on an overpass” but had no other details.
