Spitfire fighter plane crash lands in Kent field
The pilot was able to walk away without serious injury after bringing the plane down near Woodchurch at around 10am on Monday, and had already managed to disembark on his own by the time emergency services arrived.
The cause of the crash is not yet known.
Kent Fire and Rescue units spent the day dealing with a large quantity of aviation fuel that leaked from the plane into the field.
Emergency services were called to an incident involving a Spitfire, following an emergency landing in a field in Woodchurch at around 10am.
“KFRS dealt with fuel leakage from the plane and SECAMB checked the pilot for injury”.
The pilot who skilfully crash-landed the Spitfire cheated death four years ago during a mid-air crash in front of thousands of spectators at a show.
“It is reported that the pilot of the plane, believed to be a Spitfire, was uninjured in the incident”. It sort of spluttered then went quiet, then I heard a noise before it landed. Built between 1938-1948 and mainly used by the Royal Air Force, Spitfires are popular among aviation enthusiasts until today.
Emergency services are at the scene.
She posted on Twitter that the pilot was OK and that the damage looked “reparable” and added: “It looks like the pilot landed it pretty well”.
The plane had been part of the fly-past of vintage aircraft for the Queen to mark the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain in July.
