Brie Larson in First Official Trailer for Room
The film-adaption of Emma Donoghue’s best-selling novel “Room” will hit theaters this November. But for Lenny Abrahamson’s much-touted adaptation Room, Brie Larson‘s caring mother takes that to a whole new level by convincing her young son Jack that their decrepit 10-foot by 10-foot abode they call home is quite literally the their entire world. After a heartbreaking reunion, the audience watches Joy and Jack adjust to the real world-a world Jack didn’t even know existed.
While bigger and more star studded films like Steve Jobs, Black Mass, Spotlight, Carol and Suffragette appeared at Telluride, Room was as talked about and maybe as adored as any of them – regardless of whether that trend continues deeper into the season. Larson may have finally found the high-profile starring role that’ll kick her career up to the next level, and allow her to leave behind thankless supporting roles in films like 21 Jump Street and The Gambler. He may wind up having the most acclaimed performance by a youngster since Quvenzhané Wallis in Beasts of the Southern Wild, which ended up in nominations for both.
We’re introduced to Massachusetts (Brie Larson) and Jack (Jacob Tremblay), two characters with long hair clearly making a go in a cramped environment.
Like any good mother, Massachusetts dedicates herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nurturing him with warmth and love and doing typical things like playing games and telling stories. Eventually, as the boy’s curiosity escalates, she plans their escape.
Room opens on October 16th.
