A few BlackBerry Priv pre-order shipments are getting delayed
BlackBerry is sending emails out to Priv pre-order customers to let them know that a few orders are going to be delayed.
Earlier this week, the Chief Executive Officer of BlackBerry John Chen said the company is already looking ahead and has a range of other products already in the works after the PRIV.
After having a confirmation that Blackberry has a series of devices in the offing, Crackberry has pulled out a new image of a supposed Blackberry that is speculated to be the next Android device from the Canadian manufacturer.
Codenamed Blackberry Vienna, the device sheds the slide-keyboard that was introduced in Blackberry Priv, and replaces it with an ever-present physical keypad like the traditional Blackberry devices.
“For the first time, users will have the best of BlackBerry while enjoying the access and flexibility of Android”, Leon said.
Another sign that more Android BlackBerry phones may be on the way came in comments made today by Gallant Leon, managing director for the company in north Asia. While specifics aren’t now available, we’re being told that BlackBerry can not ship factory-unlocked Priv units, but will instead offer carrier-locked devices with unlock codes generated by BlackBerry.
BlackBerry could use a boost in sales, as its operating system has fallen to fifth place globally, according to the latest market report from the research firm Strategy Analytics.
Blackberry Priv featured a 5.4-inch sized display, which however would be too bulky for a smartphone if used with a permanent keypad alongside. Since all of the apps have been added to Google Play already, it shouldn’t be hard for BlackBerry to add support for Vienna.
The dimensions, specs, price, and release date remain a mystery, but we will continue to update this post with any updates.
