A grown-up Nancy Drew TV series is in the works at CBS
TV criminals stealing old clocks or hiding in old attics had better watch out… for Nancy Drew. Yup, that’s the premise.
The latest potential entry in the growing list of primetime revivals is a new “Nancy Drew” series on CBS. Will ABC reincarnate the Hardy Boys? (Though watching Nancy Drew use her “uncanny remark expertise” to do her taxes and discover the least mediocre Tinder date does sound oddly watchable). Both of them have been producers and writers on Grey’s Anatomy for many seasons, and both also had writer/producer roles on Madam Secretary and the short-lived spinoff Law & Order: Trial By Jury.
According to Deadline, the network has put a drama series that reinterprets the beloved character as an adult into development.
The book series, which first appeared in 1930, was created by Edward Stratemeyer, though published under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene.
Flavorwire says that there are over 175 Nancy Drew books, including the spin-off genre.
And hey, if audiences can get excited about MacGyver again, Nancy Drew has a fair shot at cracking this case. The series starred Pamela Sue Martin as Drew.
“Nancy Drew” has also been a staple on the big screen care of Bonita Granville in four Warner Bros. films from 1938-39 and, more recently, Emma Roberts (“Scream Queens”) in a 2007 movie.
