A Ned Flanders Themed Rock Band Actually Exists
The five-piece Phoenix, Arizona, area band even dress the part, sporting Ned Flanders’ characteristic green sweater, pink button up, grey slacks, and moustache.
Just when you thought you heard it all, there is a Ned Flanders themed band from Arizona named “Okilly Dokilly”.
Themed metal bands can be a joy to behold, especially when they’re drenched in pop culture. Head Ned describes them as, “Not as fast as Bartcore, and a little cleaner than Krusty Punk. Not as heavy as ‘Homer J.ent – Nedal is a happy medium in the Simpscene”.
“Most of our songs are direct Ned quotes”, the band say on their Facebook page. Their name? Okilly Dokilly, obviously, with heavy emphasis on “kill” and “kill”.
But how did the band – consisting of members Head Ned, Bled Ned, Red Ned, Thread Ned and Stead Ned – come up with the Simpsons-based idea?
Over the weekend, I was sitting around with a few friends discussing the most pressing topics of our day, like the largest animal Ronda Rousey could beat in a fight (an emu) or whether or not everybody actually loved Raymond (they didn’t). But how do the Neds sound against the several other Simpsons-inspired groups? That is sadly not the case, as only Head Ned can claim to be wrong-handed. “The other Neds aren’t so lucky”. There is nobody less threatening than Ned Flanders, and thus Okilly Dokilly was born.
That said, their homage to the Leftorium – All That Is Left – and its pun-heavy bridge are pretty damn wonderful, while the dichotomous vibe of Nothing At All, which blows out from wobbly introspection to balls-out stomp-rock, replete with vocal tip-of-the-hat to The Offspring’s Gone Away, is probably the best thing on the tape.
