A New ‘Jumanji’ Will Be Hitting Theaters Christmas, 2016
Robin Williams starred in the adaptation of the Chris Van Allsburg’s 1981 children’s book Jumanji twenty years ago. But since then we haven’t any progress on the development front.
We bet with that holiday release, Sony will be sure to fill retail stores with plenty of updated Jumanji board games!
It’s no secret that Hollywood loves its sequels, prequels and reboots (don’t even get me started on “Spider-Man”).
More on the new Jumanji as we hear it.
Sony Pictures today confirmed that 16 new movies had been given a release date – including a remake of Jumanji, the 1990s Robin Williams movie that captured hearts across the world.
The original Jumanji was released in December of 1995 with The Rocketeer and Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston at the helm.
In the top-grossing movies of 2014, the first 20 mostly consist of films aimed at teens like “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” or superhero movies that could be too violent for younger kids, depending on parents’ guidelines.
Not only is Will Smith’s Bad Boys franchise getting a third installment come February 17, 2017, it’s also getting a fourth film!
Of course, not everyone is on board with rehashing the same territory, and some fans think the original should be left alone, and Sony should just advance the story, rather than re-tell it.
