A New Prince Album Is On The Way
Titled The Hit & Run Album, the new project is being described as one of Prince’s spacier offerings. 3rdEyeGirl, which plays with Prince in concert, said it first heard the album at an after-party following Prince’s private concert at the White House last month.
Though an official ETA has yet to be confirmed, the upcoming record will be called The Hit & Run Album. The “funky” new album is dedicated exclusively to the hardcore Prince fans, who are referred to as “The Purple Army” or “The Purple Collective”, and the name of the album reflects that.
The group said: “It’s weird, there’s a lot of experimental sound”. Welton’s husband, Joshua acted as DJ for the Washington, D.C. afterparty, previewing songs for the crowd that even the band had never heard before.
“This Could Be Us is such a classic tune that’s so lovely and the lyrics are unbelievable, the production is phenomenal”, said the band. 1,000 Hugs and Kisses – A song originally from the time of Diamonds and Pearls.
Prince’s last two albums, ArtOfficialAge and PlectrumElectrum, were released through Warner Bros, the label with which he had the much-publicised “slave” dispute in the 1990s. BBC reports that the star’s current band, 3rd Eye Girl, said The Hit & Run Album will arrive “hopefully soon”.
Prince released two albums last fall, but that won’t stop him from dropping another before 2015 comes to a close. “It’s definitely something we’re thinking is going to be released right away, it’s just not been nailed down yet”.
