A’s trade Burns to Royals for Eibner, put Hill on DL
The Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics have pulled off a trade, swapping Billy Burns and Brett Eibner. He was optioned to Nashville on July 15 and has played in 10 games with the Sounds, batting.
Burns, 26, has played in each of the last three Major League seasons with the A’s and is batting. From a statistical perspective, it represents a decline from his 2015 effort at the plate when he slashed.294/.334/.392 with five home runs and 42 RBI in 125 contests. Eibner also suffered an injury in Kansas City that limited his playing time, but he may be able to find a permanent home in Oakland. His 14 steals are tied for eighth in the American League. 307 with 16 homers, 72 RBIs and 28 stolen bases.
Cain was reinstated from the disabled list Friday in the hours before the Royals faced the Texas Rangers in the second game of a four-game series.
Eibner suffered an ankle sprain in May and went on the disabled list.
Kansas City was thought to be a seller in advance of Monday’s deadline, but appears to have made a long-term addition in Burns, who is under control through 2020.
