A Stoops loss could spell bad things for the Oklahoma Program
Last week, I mentioned that the Longhorns needed a good showing in order to keep their season exciting and prevent a total collapse.
Texas (2-4), never trailed, rushed for a season-best 313 yards and had two players over the century mark with running back D’Onta Foreman (117 yards, including a career-long 81-yarder) and quarterback Jerrod Heard (115 yards) in route to an upset win over OU. We just played TCU like that.
By now, most (if not all) of you reading this know the situation K-State faces if they lose this Saturday against Oklahoma.
This and that: In last year’s loss at West Virginia, Baylor had a Big 12 record 215 yards in penalties.
The Wildcats (3-2, 0-2) lost to the Cowboys on a last-minute field goal two weeks ago, and to the Horned Frogs on a last-minute touchdown last week. The Wildcats’ last win over them in Manhattan was in 1996…. “It was a big-time rival game, and our players were just so up for it. It told the players… the way we’re going to work today, it’s going to speak for itself”.
Until the final minute, of course. Kansas State won 49 consecutive games when leading at the half before Oklahoma State. “I’m just really proud of her and what she’s been able to do”, Jobson said. Charles Jones has added 162 yards and three touchdowns. “We’re playing well, but we’re not finishing in the manner that has allowed us to have the season that were having so far”. “What it’s going to take from here on out is an incredible level of character”, he said. We kind of got set up for this and just couldn’t respond in a more positive way.
Texas has Kansas State at home Saturday at 12 p.m., and it’ll be interesting to see if it can use the momentum gathered in the win against Oklahoma. Bryant leads the Wildcats with three sacks on the season while Davis has 2.5 of his own.
This coming Saturday’s matchup in Ann Arbor between undefeated Michigan State and Michigan is not to be missed.
The Wildcats didn’t finally revisit the running game until the end of the third quarter – a drive that carried over into the fourth and was exclusively on the ground – capped by a 1-yard TD run by Hubener to give K-State a 42-31 lead.
However, fans of the scarlet and black may find themselves increasingly less concerned with Mayfield now that sophomore Patrick Mahomes II and Texas Tech leads the NCAA in passing offense. Kansas State may allow a lot of big plays through the air, but they are one of the best defenses in the nation at stopping the run.
The State Fair mash-up of Texas-OU (or OU-Texas, depending on your personal preference) turns half of the Cotton Bowl into a sea of burnt orange and the other half into an ocean of crimson for the annual Red River Showdown.
