A suspension, an injury and a signing highlight Redskins Camp on Friday
Saints fans no longer have to worry about the ugly headlines popping up with Galette’s name in them, but now they have to fret over the pass rush.
Linebackers Dannelle Ellerbe and Anthony Spencer were roaming the sidelines at practice, but they did not participate. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers moreover have expressed interest in Galette, yet it is believed in that Washington ranks 1st on his list of destinations, another person familiar with Galette’s thinking said.
In January, Galette was arrested on domestic violence charges that were later dropped, although the league continues its own investigation.
In June, Galette was back in the news after a video surfaced showing him hitting a woman with a belt during a brawl in 2013. So I’m not coming in here saying he’s going to be a model citizen, but I think we’ve got enough great guys in that locker room to help show him the way. “We all make mistakes”, Galette said.
In other words, there are more than a few issues to question when it comes to analyzing the Saints’ 2015 prospects as training camp heats up this weekend in West Virginia. The collective bargaining agreement prevents teams from putting the players in pads right away, so the Saints will be in shorts & helmets (shells) for the first three practices.
“I think we’re pretty good at that without undermining the ability to improve our roster”. “We will be smart about Drew’s reps obviously and then it is a little bit easier if you take an emphasis each day where hey one day Luke might get more work, Ryan and then Garrett”.
“Yes, I said this throughout the offseason, I think you’ve got to be careful you’re not looking to correct things that aren’t broken”. While he could’ve possibly waited longer to sign with another team – and at a higher price – he said his focus is excelling on and off the field, and not in his wallet.
Used as a strong-side linebacker in his first two seasons in New Orleans, Haralson has worked exclusively at defensive end, lining up with his hand on the ground in New Orleans’ base defense. “He told us that he would do everything in his power to make sure that we wouldn’t regret it. All we can go by is what we think and our gut feeling and that’s what we did”.
There’s no denying the 27-year-old Galette’s talents. “I can’t be any more clear than that”.
“He’s doing well”, Coach Sean Payton said. He’s now a free agent and the Redskins are interested in him. He remains a very good pass-rusher, recording 10 sacks last season.
After being released by the Saints, Galette went on a tirade on Twitter blasting the Saints’ official Twitter account, although he later claimed it wasn’t him who posted those messages.
Payton said injured players will receive treatment and perhaps some will get workouts while the coaching staff works on the upcoming camp schedule.
