A Telling Confrontation Between Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio
Trump is supported by 36 percent of Republicans and GOP-leaning voters in the Morning Consult poll taken in the two days immediately following the Tuesday night debate in Las Vegas.
“He’s going to have a hard time because he’s not told the truth about his position in the past on legalization”, Rubio said of Cruz while campaigning in Iowa.
Rubio, meanwhile, just sounds like he’s completely full of shit, like when Dana Bash tried to get him to weigh in on citizenship at the debate.
“Now, Marco Rubio is a friend of mine he is a wonderful communicator, he’s a charming individual he’s very well liked”, Cruz said.
No news is good news, with one exception: Given the similarity between those results and national poll numbers, we may not see a significant change in the state of play after the debate. “And I will always oppose amnesty, citizenship or legalization and I encourage Sen”. And this also goes to trust.
He made the promise in a candidates’ debate, which drew claps from a conservative radio host who helped moderate the CNN-hosted event Tuesday. Ted Cruz, R-Texas speaks in Las Vegas.
Cruz’s “intend to” language was far from his finest moment, and a campaign spokesperson later clarified that the senator would not support legalization under any circumstances. However, as reported by Fox News’ Megyn Kelly and Brit Hume, during a Senate hearing on immigration reform in 2013, Cruz specifically supported legalizing illegal immigrants as long as they did not have a path to citizenship.
“Here’s what we learned in 2013: The American people don’t trust the federal government to enforce our immigration laws, and we will not be able to do anything on immigration until we first prove to the American people that illegal immigration is under control”, he said, in a carefully crafted explanation of his evolution.

Marco Rubio was and has been throughout these debates the most skilled and polished debater, a white-collar man, up against blue-collar brawlers like Trump and Chris Christie. At one point, during a rambling, bumbling response to a specific question about the “nuclear triad”, the billionaire reality TV star showed that he hadn’t a clue what the questioner was actually talking about. Cruz has called the New York Times story about the remarks “misleading”, insisting that he was not attacking Trump but simply discussing how every candidate should be assessed on their judgment.
During an appearance on the Howie Carr Show on Thursday, Sessions firmly sided with Cruz.
A recent poll suggested 68 per cent of his supporters would stick with him if he chose such a route – a devastating prospect for the Republican party. Rubio was a co-author of comprehensive Senate legislation in 2013 that would have created that pathway, but he has since said the nation’s immigration crisis must be addressed in piecemeal fashion, with legalization only an option after the U.S.-Mexico border is secured. It would not do the things they said it would do. “I think Hillary is a great appointment”.
It’s also possible that Cruz was referring to another segment of the bill, Section 3405, which allows stateless people to get legal status.
He reiterated this position in an interview with the Texas Tribune in 2013, saying: “The amendment that I introduced removed the path to citizenship, but it did not change the underlying work permit from the Gang of Eight”. The key parts were to have citizenship and voting rights for people who had been in the country illegally. “I think most Americans want to see the problem fixed.”…
