Not a single station in the country sold gas at that price last Labor Day weekend, specialists say.
Returning to his hometown during Labor Day Weekend, he said “gas prices are better than what they were a few years ago”. “However, crude oil prices started surging again, so we need to keep an eye on that”.
Last year, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in Ohio was $3.49 during Labor Day weekend, according to AAA.
Even drivers who told NewsWest 9 they never fill up are taking advantage of the lowest gas prices in almost a decade. The Orange County average price had fallen 35.7 cents during the streak to its lowest amount since April 26. Nationwide, prices dropped about 10 cents to $2.44, according to AAA Arizona. Market fundamentals remain troubled, but the Chinese economy and the prospect of Iran returning to the oil market, together with Saudi Arabia not wanting to lower production look trends that favor the downfall of global oil prices.
Michael Green, a spokesman for AAA said, “Average USA gas prices are falling at the fastest rates since December”. The EIA projected that average gas prices would fall to $2.11 per gallon during the final quarter of 2015.
The number of people out on the road this Labor Day weekend is expected to increase over last year’s Labor Day holiday.
The highest prices listed are in Sweet Grass ($3.04); West Glacier ($2.98); St. Mary ($2.95); Wolf Creek ($2.89); and Plentywood ($2.89).
He expects to see more people on the roads as he travels to South Dakota through Albert Lea. Oil producers have been creating larger supply around the world, including in the U.S. The average barrel of crude oil is around $47, about half the price from the same period a year ago.
