AAP leaders meet Delhi Police chief over Pandey case
Taking strong objection to the letter, BJP asked Kejriwal to stay within his “limits” while coming down hard on him for repeated barbs at the Prime Minister.
Kejriwal, during an exclusive interview with India Today Group Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai, was made to respond to a diverse set of questions ranging from his controversial TV ad campaign to his face-off with the Centre over the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) controversy. The youths were protesting the inaction of Delhi Police in the Meenakshi murder case.
“…Using a derogatory and demeaning term like “thulla” to refer to police personnel is equivalent to referring to all Delhi Police officials as lethargic and unproductive”.
Why is this an important issue for Arvind Kejriwal?
“The Delhi government has decided to call a special session to propose the setting up of an inquiry commission to probe what action will be taken in these cases (crime against women)”, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia told reporters.
Police commissioner Bassi had also hinted his displeasure over the use of word “thulla”, slang for a cop, by Kejriwal saying, “I refuse to believe that the honourable chief minister would have used any word of this sort”. Kejriwal had on Saturday announced a compensation of ‘5 lakh to the family of a girl who was stabbed to death in Anand Parbat locality and ordered a magisterial probe into the case while slamming Delhi Police for the “deteriorating” law and order situation.
Last week, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly stabbed 32 times by two brothers for resisting harassment in the Anand Parbat market. “When we tried to stop them they started throwing stones at us, they threw sticks from the banners, blocked traffic and created major ruckus in the area”, a senior police officer said. Manish Sisodia, Dy CM of Delhi tweeted some tweets regarding the power of Delhi police.
“Sir, as you know, the Delhi government has no control over the Delhi police”.
