Aaron Ramsey: ‘Theo Walcott is a goalscorer’
Walcott made a big statement to be Arsenal’s leading striker in the F.A. Cup final scoring the opening goal and playing a crucial role in a mobile Arsenal attack which picked Aston Villa apart. He’s scored 76 times in his Arsenal career to date and Ramsey thinks a century of goals isn’t too far away.
“He is a goal scorer”.
“He is a goalscorer – he has a load of goals for Arsenal and I think he can carry that on and maybe get into the 100 Club this year“.
“He’s a very strong character”, he added. His ability to hold the ball up and win a large percentage of aerial duels allow our creative technicians to push up the pitch putting more pressure on the opposing team. “Hopefully he can continue doing that”.
The ex-England midfielder, talking at the latest Telegraph Total Football: Live event, in association with Virgin Media, believes that Arsene Wenger needs to stick with either Olivier Giroud, or Theo Walcott. Is it Spanish media or English media?
Benitez followed up on Wenger’s comments by confirming that Benzema is to remain at the Bernabeu. “On a personal level, I have no problem, I’m happy where I am and I’ll compete with Theo”.
Striker is perceived by many to be the weakest point in Arsenal’s squad in terms of quality.
It’ll be interesting to see how the manager uses Walcott and Giroud this season, and whether or not this competition up front will bring out the best in each of them. Walcott finished last season with four goals in two games, and looks to have continued that streak with two goals in five pre-season matches. He will have some catching up to do with both Giroud and Walcott after a strong pre-season by both players, especially Walcott.
Meanwhile, Arsenal captain Mikel Arteta believes his teammate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has the world at his feet as he heads into the new Premier League season.
