Aaron Rodgers is good to go next week
He wasn’t the improvisational magician that he usually is on plays outside the pocket. The Packers’ 24-23 victory over the Chicago Bears was the biggest fourth-quarter comeback in the history of the franchise, and it was due in large part to Rodgers’ heroics on a gimpy leg. The quarterback eventually walked off the turf and went into the medical tent on the sideline for examination. So I went into the locker room, did all the tests. His career high numbers speak for themselves, and we all got a little reminder that he and Rodgers have been working together for a long, long time.
The Bears jumping out to a 7-0 lead was the least surprising thing about Sunday night’s game.
Kevin Demoff confirmed recently that the Rams tried to trade for Khalil Mack, offering the Raiders a “pretty aggressive package” in discussions.
“First off, as far as Aaron Rodgers, we’re still collecting all the information in his specific situation”, Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy said. What are the top three takeaways from the game? That equates to just north of 22 million viewers, which easily won NBC the prime-time lineup but actually represents a 9 percent dip from 2017 and a 3 percent fall from 2016.
Rodgers, it seemed, had avoided a major injury. “I just started watching so I can’t really tell you anything about that yet”. “I was having a hard time putting weight on it”.
Which is what he did.
Cornerback Kyle Fuller’s drop of an interception shouldn’t be forgotten. “We gave up six”.
The new offense led by Mitchell Trubisky started things off the right way as they debuted a number of different formations over a ten-play, 86 yard drive. I was disappointed with the field goal.
Nagy on Monday did rue an earlier play call, admitting that a running play probably would’ve been the best approach on third-and-1 at the Bears’ 34-yard line with 12:46 remaining and Chicago leading 20-10. “It was pretty special”.
Mack wanted to be wanted and paid commensurately for his accomplishments, which vastly surpassed the expectations that came with his rookie contract, even as the fifth player selected in the 2014 draft. Rodgers demonstrated once more than having an otherworldly quarterback is more important than anything else.
It was a game fitting for the Green Bay Packers’ 100th season opener.
Last Thursday night’s National Football League season opener between the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons fell 8 percent in the ratings compared to last season’s first game, according to Nielsen data (per The Wrap).
The fact that he was even able to return last night was a miracle.
“I can’t be moving around a whole lot back there”, Rodgers said of his mindset upon reentering the game.
