Aaron Ward arrested by Cary police
Authorities have arrested former Carolina Hurricanes player and TV analyst Aaron Ward following a domestic incident.
Ward, 42, was also charged with “interfering with emergency communications”, after allegedly taking his wife’s cell phone while she was on the phone with emergency dispatchers.
The News & Observer then reported around 6:15 p.m. that Cary Police had announced the assault charge against Kelly Ward has been “rescinded”.
Cary is located near Raleigh, North Carolina, where Ward helped the Hurricanes win the 2006 Stanley Cup.
Because of the nature of his charges, Ward will spend a mandatory 48 hours in the Wake County jail. TSN issued a statement saying that Ward has been removed from the air until further notice.
According to WRAL’s Jeff Gravley, Ward’s wife placed a 911 call to police Friday afternoon.
Update: TSN appears to have suspended Ward indefinitely.
The 42-year-old Ward played 839 games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks, retiring after the 2009-10 season.
