Abandoned vehicle prompts evacuation of LaGuardia terminal in NY
It is the third-busiest airport in the New York City area.
The lockdown at LaGuardia airport causes confusion among travelers.
The auto was seen being towed away by the police, with a Port Authority Police Department spokesperson stating that it was “cleared without incident”, the NBC New York channel reported.
Passengers said on social media that they were asked to move to the upper level of Terminal B of the Queens airport around 11.15 p.m.
Terminal B was evacuated around 11:30 p.m.as Port Authority police began looking into the vehicle.
The terminal was evacuated and traffic was diverted while the investigation was ongoing. Some were seen in video walking towards Terminal C with their luggage, reportedly following an announcement to evacuate Terminal B, while others waited outside.
Several people tweeted that the airport was on lockdown and one posted a photo showing a police vehicle blocking lanes at the airport.
