Abbey Lee Is The Dark Tower’s Female Lead
Lee is originally a model who transitioned into acting past year Mad Max: Fury Road. That’s what I heard they were calling this major character, and for die hard fans, I can tell you a few character qualities: she’s sexy and risky, she has fake human skin and cold snake-like eyes.
This news was met first with excitement because, hey, “The Dark Tower” is finally gaining momentum after a decade of false starts. There’s some new casting on the project today, courtesy of Deadline, which reports that Mad Max: Fury Road star Abbey Lee has entered talks to play the role of Tirana opposite Idris Elba as Roland Deschain (The Gunslinger) and Matthew McConaughey as Randall Flag (The Man in Black). Nikolaj Arcel will direct.
“The Dark Tower” is already set up with a core group of characters who have enough backstory and development to fill multiple trilogies.
Lee could also be playing Susan Delgado, the great lost love of Roland’s life, but since she doesn’t show up until book four, Wizard and Glass, in a lengthy series of flashbacks, incorporating her into the first movie would also mean some massive changes to the text. A complementary TV series is also being developed by MRC. Goldsman and Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Erica Huggins will produce, while Pinkner will exec produce.
The first installment of the series will be called The Gunslinger, following the first book in the series by the same name. Or is it possible that the director, the producers and screenwriters are taking huge liberties with King’s material?
The film is on track for a January 13, 2017 release, and is expected to kickstart a whole franchise of Dark Tower movies.
