ABC Cop Drama ‘Rookie Blue’ Cancelled After Six Seasons
After six seasons of sudsy cop drama, the Canadian series “Rookie Blue” is no longer.
Given the ratings for “Rookie Blue” this summer in America, we’re sure ABC can figure out something that will fare right about as well in the timeslot, even if it won’t have the same passionate fan following behind it (at least for the early going.) We’ll miss the show, but it had a pretty tremendous run and the cancellation coming out now allows the cast time to find a few other gigs. The Season 6 finale, which aired September 3 on ABC and served as the series finale, saw the wedding of Officer Andy McNally (Missy Peregrym) and Detective Sam Swarek (Ben Bass). The cast also included Gregory Smith, Charlotte Sullivan, Enuka Okuma, Travis Milne, Peter Mooney, Priscilla Faia, Matt Gordon and Rachael Ancheril. It was created by Tassie Cameron, Morwyn Brebner and Ellen Vanstone.
Now all that Rookie Blue fans can do is wait for studio Entertainment One to release the remaining episodes on DVD.
Executive producers include Ilana Frank, Tassie Cameron, Russ Cochrane, David Wellington and John Morayniss.
Shaw Media says it plans to continue working with the team behind “Rookie Blue“, ICF Films and eOne, on a yet-to-be-announced new project. “After six fun and dramatic seasons, our story has come to a natural close”, creator Ilana Frank said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter.
