Abortion Clinic Shooting Suspect In Court
Dear’s court appearance will be done by video Monday afternoon.
Mike Huckabee says the pro-life community should publicly condemn the man accused of opening fire and killing three people at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado last week if he is found to have been motivated by the recent series of undercover, anti-Planned Parenthood videos. She says Turner anxious about Bragg living off the grid with a man in Colorado and said that he wasn’t hearing from her much. When asked by Judge Gilbert Martinez if he understood his rights, Dear replied, “no questions”.
Following an attack on a Planned Parenthood in Colorado, Planned Parenthood South Texas says its continuing operations as usual.
Planned Parenthood officials have confirmed none of the people killed in the shooting or 9 victims who were injured were Planned Parenthood abortion clinic staff or patients and authorities have released no motive for the shooter as to whether or not he actually targeted Planned Parenthood.
Some of Dear’s acquaintances, who spoke to the Times on the condition of anonymity, said he was strictly against abortion and at times heaped praise on those who attacked abortion clinics.
Officials with the U.S. Justice Department have joined the investigation by state and local authorities, raising the possibility the federal government could bring a terrorism or civil rights charge against Dear, or both.
Dear is accused of fatally shooting a university police officer who responded to the attack, as well as an Iraq war veteran and a mother of two inside the clinic. Three people were killed and nine others inured.
After Monday’s hearing, District Attorney Dan May said Dear could face other charges, but he did not elaborate. Neighbors here also said that he would mostly keep to himself, but occasionally handed out anti-President Obama pamphlets.
“That’s when my office will decide if and what charges should be filed, and if we file charges that will be the date that would occur”, May said.
“We refuse to let these candidates off the hook”, Leavitt said, urging the DOJ to take action and hold the candidates responsible for their inflammatory rhetoric.
“Along with these policy changes has come an increase in hateful, ugly rhetoric, some of which, I believe, contributes to an increase of violence against abortion providers”, Run yon-Harms said. Documents from the case say that Dear showed up at the house of a woman he had been pursuing, despite the fact that she said she was married.
New York-based Planned Parenthood provides health care services at seven locations across Western Pennsylvania, including in Downtown Pittsburgh.
