Abrams skirts Oscars talk for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’
The movie’s director, J.J. Abrams, was recently interviewed by Entertainment Weekly. He bluntly states the following.
On a possible extended version: “There will be deleted scenes [on the Blu-ray], but not an extended version”. The DVD/Blu-ray will just have multiple deleted scenes. I don’t think Chinese people can understand this movie as Americans do. It will only have several deleted scenes that were cut from the theatrical version.
“I don’t know what the longest cut was”. The site also asked Abrams what the longest cut was and he said with credits it would have been about 2 hours and 50 minutes.
“The Revenant” averaged $4,267 per theater in the 3,375 screens that Fox has placed it in, nearly 800 fewer than the 4,134 screens on which “The Force Awakens” continues to unfold for “Star Wars” fans young and old. Abrams has said a number of things were cut at the last minute.
The Force Awakens has, of course, instantly created a ton of online memes and reaction – some loving, some critical, some meant to be taken humorously. He would only comment on how great a writer director Rian Johnson is, and that he is really excited to see the movie.
“But current indications point towards an opening-day gross of around $33 million”. I’m so grateful that the movie did what it did.
“I hear anecdotally that some people have gone to see the movie seven or eight times”, he said. “So, whatever the numbers are, …I’m honestly just so grateful that the movie’s out there and has been well-received”.
A lot of people (like my dad, for instance) didn’t love the film. I’m just so glad people get to see all the work that this unbelievable crew and cast did. “They may say ‘Oh please, ‘ but I saw how hard some of these artists work and they are very deserving”. But there are co-workers he would be disappointed for if they didn’t get nominated. No, I’m just very grateful and I can’t believe it’s done. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is in 21st place behind some all time classics like “The Sound of Music”, “E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial” and “Titanic”.
