Accurate Matthew Stafford leads Lions to win over Saints
Matthew Stafford didn’t just play well in Monday night’s 35-27 win in New Orleans, he played historically well.
RISING YOUTH: Saints second-year receiver Brandin Cooks made a career-high 10 catches for a career-best 124 yards receiving, including a 27-yard touchdown.
“I feel like we are playing good complementary football”, Stafford said. Brees is expected to be listed as day to day for that game.
The 5-9 New Orleans Saints are already out of the playoff hunt, so not playing Brees is certainly an option at this point of the season.
Brees completed 34 of 52 pass attempts for 341 yards and three touchdowns. Quin is in the concussion protocol, but Caldwell would not say how likely Quin might be to go on season-ending injured-reserve.
As impressive as Cooter’s transition to being a coordinator for the first time has been, Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said Stafford deserves a lot of credit for adjusting well during the season.
The No. 3 quarterback has been rookie Garrett Grayson, New Orleans’ third-round pick (No. 75 overall) this year.
Tight end Ben Watson said he suspects Flynn would be first in line to step in.
Woodson is one of the most accomplished defensive backs to play the game, ranking fifth all-time with 65 interceptions and tied for first with Rod Woodson and Darren Sharper with 13 defensive touchdowns.
Ziggy was a little ill yesterday, just a little nauseated, so we’ll see what happens with him, but we anticipate he’ll be OK. “As far as I know, he is the backup quarterback, correct?”
“I really don’t and that’s fine, whatever I can do to help this team win”, he said. Considering he joined the Lions on a one-year deal last offseason, the injury could be a deterrent in free agency, but Walker said he’s not thinking about his future yet. “My question was, ‘Well, if he never reported, why didn’t we throw a penalty (flag) on that first play?’ Senio is one of the smartest guys on our team”. “That would be my assumption, but obviously that would be a coach’s decision once we got to the actual game”. “You know they are going to make a run”. “I just had to keep it moving because it was getting stiff, but we were able to manage it”, Brees said.
Brees will seek a second opinion from Dr. Robert Anderson, the same doctor who treated Peyton Manning for the same injury that’s kept the Broncos quarterback out the last five games.
