Accused of Killing West Chester Teen Over $30 and Some Marijuana
District Attorney Hogan added, “Once again, outstanding teamwork by Chester County law enforcement has led to swift and efficient arrests”.
Police in West Chester are investigating an overnight homicide in East Bradford Township.
The men – Onray L. Winfield, 19, of West Chester; Darrell T. Woodward, 19, of Coatesville; Gerald D. Myers, 19, of West Chester; and Bryon K. Stevens, 50, of Coatesville – have been charged with murder, robbery, conspiracy and related offenses.
Cristian Santiago, 17, who was about to start his senior year at West Chester Henderson High School was killed after allegedly meeting three individuals at a West Chester gas station to sell them a small amount of marijuana, police said.
“This case is a prime example of a brutal and senseless killing”, said Hogan. The defendants are facing murder charges. Police at the scene were able to identify the victim.
Berling said whether a vehicle is left unlocked or not, all valuables should be removed when you leave your vehicle. They arranged to meet Santiago at a gas station in West Chester, pretending to be marijuana customers. Investigators say the suspects set up a sham drug deal with 17-year-old Cristian Santiago, of West Chester, during which they robbed and killed him. Hogan said that Winfield knew Myers – along with Darrell Woodward and Byron Stevens of Coatesvile – planned to rob Santiago.
The men then dumped Santiago’s body in a remote section of Hillsdale Road and fled with less than a quarter-ounce of marijuana and $30, the complaint said. As the investigation continues, anybody with information is asked to contact the Chester County Detectives at 610-344-6866 or the West Chester Police Department at 610-696-2700.
